ALL ALONG THE CLOCK TOWER

“All Along the Clock Tower”

This Mural was designed and painted for the lobby of the newly built St. Elizabeth Cancer Center of Dearborn County, in partnership with the City of Lawrenceburg, IN.

The City council of Lawrenceburg reached out to me regarding an indoor mural for St. Elizabeth’s new Cancer center being built right off the 275 exit of Lawrenceburg. The City had donated a large sum of money towards the construction of the facility, and St. Elizabeth wanted to show its gratitude by commissioning a large scale art project in its lobby showcasing the beauty of the surrounding area.

St. Elizabeth had a few main goals for the design. It needed to convey a sense of “calm”, as well as represent the area in its best light. The city of Lawrenceburg wanted their river clock tower to be included in the final design. Both St. E and Lawrenceburg wanted the final execution to be very soft and easy on the eyes. The idea for both partners was to sooth patients and family while they are within the facility getting treatment.

After designing more than 30 variations, and a number of edits, the final design was chosen. The mural showcases a view of the Ohio river, looking towards the hills of Indiana. Behind the bend is the clock tower of Lawrenceburg. It was discussed as to what time should be on the clock. I suggested 3:33 which is known as the angels time.

The mural was painted on 4 separate panels off site and installed onsite. I used soft colors and a soft painting technique, resembling a watercolor, in order to convey this sense of calm and peace.
